It was difficult for me to wait during evening rush hours at Dadar platform number one. But I was not having any other go but to wait for my agent who would register my documents with Registration Authorities. Tsunami of people comes every time some train reaches platform and people waves hit me and my thoughts of owning an accommodation in Mumbai. After long wait Mr. Patil appeared from nowhere.
Patil : You are standing here? I was waiting at the tea stall for you.
I said : But you asked me to wait near the indicator.
Patil: I don’t understand why people work to rule?
I said : Sorry, I have brought the papers. How much time it will take to get registered?
Patil : Only Rs. 25,000/- for now. Let us see how it goes.
I said : But you have asked for only Rs.10,000/- which includes your fees.
Patil was not interested in my views, and went busy attending his cell call. After 12 minutes I repeated my question, when he finished with his gossip.
I said : You met me in builders office and assured me to complete the formalities within Rs.10,000/- now what makes you to ask for Rs.25,000/-?
Patil : Badasaab is on holiday. His subordinates are not having rate cards you see. Stupid people, ( cha maila) they don’t have any ethics. Your official fee will be Rs.7,500/- plus the Chaipani. Let see your papers.
I gave him my papers. He never looked at them closely. Just having my carpet area from the agreement, he said : you must be prepared to shell out more.
I said: I am ready, whatever above Rs.7500/- I will pay you but I must get my documents same day so that I can forward it to my home loan company.
Patil: Wait a minute, I mean above Rs.25000/-. You require your papers same day? Isn’t it? Then you must be prepared for that.
I said: But authorities give the documents same day, I have heard. It is easy now to get the documents.
Patil: Then why don’t you try your luck, you don’t need me.
I said : I went all the way but I could not have the token for days. I took leave for almost a week.
Patil: Have you brought the token?
I said: Just Rs.10,000/-, as you asked for.
Patil : lets go to ATM for Rs.15,000/-, UTI is just here only.
I Said : No I will have to arrange for it. I have nothing after paying all the charges builders asked for.
I gave a packet of Rs.10,000/- to him.
Patil : Call me when you want me to go for registration.
I Said: Why not tomorrow?
Patil : Give me balance Rs.25,000/- tomorrow.
I Said : Rs.15,000/-
Patil: I said it will be more.
I said : but….
Patil: My train is approaching. See you then.
And then I lost him in the ocean of crowd.
