After Britain, Turkey finds business interest in MMR

Mumbai, 01 April, 2011: The rapid growth and development of Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) has been attracting global players to explore opportunities in the region as Mumbai is becoming increasingly attractive business destination. After the visit of a UK based group of architects on Thursday, another top delegation from the Turkey government visited MMRDA officials on Friday.
Led by Mr Suleyman Sozeri, Head of Department, Undersecretariat of the Prime Ministry for Foreign Trade, Government of Turkey, a delegation discussed the potential synergies for trade and exchange with MMRDA. With agenda of promoting Turkish trade, the delegation had primary discussions on the possibilities of partnering in road, construction, shipping and water transport projects of MMRDA.
Mr Rahul Asthana, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA, said, “There are many socio-economic dimensions of both countries which are identical in nature. We encourage competition and fair practice and hence, we have communicated to the delegation that the business entities from Turkey can explore opportunities of synergising with Indian counterparts and become the partners of growth.”
The Turkish delegation, after a round of presentations, would further take up the discussions with various agencies in the State and MMRDA. The Turkish government is looking at potential areas of co-operation into areas of strategic tie-ups, logistics and contracting projects as the country is Europe’s largest iron-steel exporter, Europe’s second largest bus producer, Europe’s largest cement producer, world’s 6th largest ship exporter and world’s 2nd largest contractor.
