Mumbai, March 25, 2010 – The beautification of Mithi bank has just begun! The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), as a part of the Mithi beautification project, has taken up the task of beautifying its bank along the 1 km long gabion wall.

“We will provide many facilities to the Bandra East residents through this first phase of Mithi beautification”, said Mr. Ratnakar Gaikwad, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA. “Besides beautifying the bank of the river with Coconut, Beetle Nut, Ficus Benjamina and Plumeria Alba trees, there will be a Korean Carpet Lawn which is a ready effect lawn with mounds and sitting arrangements. These Coconut Palms have been brought from Andhra Pradesh and transplanted successfully. Few of the trees bearing fruits is the proof of successful transplantation. Considering the number of walkers and joggers in the Bandra-Kurla Complex, we have also included jogging and walking tracks in the entire setup”, added Mr.Gaikwad.

In addition, there will be plantation of hybrid hedges with colourful illumination with lights and Warali theme paintings on the wall, platforms for Meditation and Acupressure therapy and walkways for maintenance.

While the 300-meter stretch is approaching completion, the 9.80 crore project is expected to meet its deadline of May 2010
