A place of worship, may it be a temple or whurch, or mosque, is built in such a way that the roof has a single cnetre point at a height well above i.e. the chapel of the church, the shikhar of the temple or the dome of the mosque, all have a certain central pint which seems to touch the skies, Why is it so ?
It is common experience that entering such places gives us relaxation and meditation is much earlier here. Also, the flowers, fruits, milk, food stuffs etc. do not decay for a long time and the ornaments on the idols remain untarnished. It is also observed that the : instruments with sharp edges if kept in the Eas-West direction remained sharpened on its own.
All the above things are believed to occur, due to the shape of the buildings, which is nothing but a “pyramid” comes from the Greeke word “Pyro” meaning fire and “amid” meaning at the centre. Fire was on of the four properties of the Universal energy, the vitality permeating all of life.
The pyramid has four triangular sides, all equal resting in a square base with all triangular sides joined to form an apex at the top. Each triangle is an isoceles one.
The shape of the pyramid is such that all types of rays falling on its surface or any radiation direction towards it pass through the sides to converge at the centre and deflected towards the bottom. The cosmic radiation passing through it mingle with the earth’s magnetic field the lines of force on the surface of the earth and the energy field emanating within the four triangular sides and the square base and new field is created. This field too has magnetic power invested with great energy would appear to be the matrix of all living things, linking man to the cosmos. Little wonder then, that most places of meditation and prayer are built in such a way.
In the Hindu temple, the GARBHA GRUHA is shaped mostly like s Shakti triangle or pyramid. Maximum energy is generated at the centre of the triangle *** and so SHAKTI i.e. Power is repreresented or rather symbolised by ***. Any picture of Goddess Amba Bhavani or Durga depicts a *** as both these are considered to be the Goddess of SHAKTI. The inverted triangle *** represents bad. Thus a star * which is combination is the two sumbolises that the good and evil exist together in LIFe, the point of maximum energy being at the centre. The SRI CHAKRA of the Hindus is a criss-crossing of a number of perfection to invoke SHAKTI.
Summarising the above, and also observing the ancient monuments like Taj-Mahal in Agra, Red Fort in Delhi, the other old temples, all modifications of the pyramidal structure.
The greatest Pyramid in Egypt is the largest, heaviest, oldest and most perfect example of structure which is buiilt with one side in North-South direction. It is believed that the “mummies” are preserved here. Experience teaches one a lot of things. We still find pyramidal or conical shaped hay stacks and sotrage bins in the rural areas.
Observing all thie we have built and octagonal shaped meditation Hall at Visappassana in Igatpuri in 1992, using reinforced concrete year, we feed back that the hall really helps in meditation.
Also, at Neral, on the foothills of Matheran we have built a water-tank pyramidal in shape using proportion dimension of the Great Pyramid without using steel anywhere. It is just build with brick masonry as it is believed that such a shape will purify water inside it. The building of course is constructed using the Reinforced Concrete Block Masonry.
Conclusion
Learning from the past is imperative to understanding the present and projecting the future. So, if such octagonal and pyramidkail structures are built while constructing schools houses, hotels, hospitals, meditation halls, water tanks, etc. it may benefit and improve his concentration in this fast life o tension and strain.
