First Meeting of the Sub Committee of National Development Council on Urbanisation
Union Minister of Urban Development Shri Kamal Nath has called upon the states for an active participation in the process of urban infrastructure development. Addressing the first meeting of the Sub- Committee of National Development Council on Urbanisation here today the minister said that growth has preceded the infrastructure in most of the urban areas. Shri Kamal Nath said there is also need for PPP model in the urban infrastructure development. He also stressed upon effective land management by the states for better results.
Briefing the Media after the meeting the Urban Development Minister said that the Expert Group set up by the Sub-Committee to examine and address various issues has been asked to submit its report by 30th June of this year.
The Union Minister for HUPA, Km. Sailja, Chief Minister of Assam, Shri Tarun Gogoi, Union Minister of State for Finance Shri Namo Narain Meena, Dy. Chairman Planning Commission, Shri Montek Singh Ahluwalia and Ministers and Senior Officials from the States of Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Orissa, West Bengal, Gujarat and Maharashtra also attended the meeting.
The Sub -Committee of the National Development Council of Urbanisation was set up in October last year in pursuance of the decision taken in the 55th meeting of the NDC held on 24th July 2010. The terms of reference of the Sub Committee includes reviewing the legal financial and institutional framework for urban governance and suggest right set of policies, draw action plan for strategic capacity building for creation of professional cadre for city management, examining issues related to financial resources for towns./cities. The Sub-Committee will submit its report by September 2011.
