First Mono Rail rake reaches Nhava Sheva Port!

Will be unloaded and cleared by the Custom authorities in four days
Mumbai, January 13, 2010 – The first Monorail rake has arrived at Nhava Sheva Port today early morning and is awaiting clearances from the Custom authorities. The formalities are expected to be completed in four days after it is unloaded on the Port by tomorrow morning. The rake will, thereafter, reach Wadala for the Republic Day dry run. “The Monorail rake brings with it huge excitement and hope for the Mumbaikars. After all, projects such as Metro Rail and the Mono Rail are here to transform the way Mumbaikars have been traveling so far in the city”, said an excited Metropolitan Commissioner, Mr.Ratnakar Gaikwad. “This dry run will also instill a lot of confidence, assuring the Mumbaikars that the cause for which they are suffering is sure to transform into reality very soon”, said Mr.Gaikwad further.
The single Mono Rail rake which sailed from Port Klang, Malaysia, on January 7, 2010, in vessel TS Malaysia is about 12 meters long and has the carrying capacity of about 110 people.
“The rake will ride on the beams, for the dry-run tests, three days before the scheduled dry run on January 26, 2010”, said Ms. Ashwini Bhide, Joint Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA.
