For agro projects farmers willingly handed over their land

Bangalore: As the southern areas are facing several protest from the farmers side such as in Halligudi, Gadag district whereas in Haveri farmer’s side is clear. On the other hand Farmers are the supportive of agro based projects as they are not keen on handing over fertile land for projects which will not benefit them.
There are eight projects, including the Spice Park were approved at the Global Investors’ Meet last June. So these all projects required 3697.8 acres of fertile land. And surprisingly acquisition of land has been done very peacefully as there was protest has staged by farmers.
The farmer Kotreshappa Baseganni has revealed the reason is why farmers are agree with this project is that “if once the land is acquired, cotton and maize processing units will also come up in Haveri and this will facilitate to farmers because of this they are happy ready for handing over their land.”
In a media conclave industries minister Murugesh Nirani said they were acquiring land for cultivation, not fertile land. But seven taluks in Haveri district have only 5,793 hectares of land unfit for cultivation and the remaining 4.85 lakh hectares are fertile.
