Forest land will convert into college campus
Environment ministry permitted 200 acre forest land for IIT Indore campus
On this Thursday Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh has approved the proposal to convert 200acre forest land into IIT Indore college campus. Enivironment Minister has cleared the proposal after the completing observation of the Forest Advisory Committee.
As state government has decided Indore is suitable place for the IIT campus their after HRD ministry accepted it and publicly announced it. As Madhya Pardesh government believes that it is impossible to set a side of 500 acres land for college without including forest land. As selection of IIT students have been done so it is not possible to shifting college land.
However proposal accepted but Jairam Ramesh has requested to HRD minister Kapil Sibal to direct all the new IITs and central universities to use the barest minimum forest land.
At the time of approving diversion of forest land into college campus Ramesh made several conditions obligatory such as setting aside at least 50% of the forest area for green purposes, such as landscaping, beautification, green belt and bio-parks. Construction in the diverted area will be permitted only in those areas where the forest density is low, that is 0.2 to 0.3. No construction will be permitted in areas where forest density is around 0.5.
