First stage geotechnical investigations for Metro-2 heading completion
Soil tests from Mankhurd to BKC to Juhu completed
Second stage of soil testing will begin after monsoon
Mumbai, June 27, 2010 – The Mumbai Metro Transport Private Limited is heading towards completing the first stage of soil testing for the Charkop-Bandra-Mankhurd Metro Corridor. The soil tests for areas from Mankhurd to Bandra-Kurla Complex to Juhu have been completed and now the tests will finally conclude at Malad within a week.
These tests establish the quality of soil and help in finalizing the foundation design for Metro support structures.
“Soil tests for any infrastructure project are crucial. These tests determine the soil strata and enable the designers to design appropriate foundations”, said Mr.SVR Srinivas, Additional Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA. “We also expect to complete the second stage of soil testing by October and begin construction of the corridor by November”, concluded Mr.Srinivas.
The geotechnical investigations for this 32 km Charkop-Bandra-Mankhurd Metro Corridor are being conducted by M/s. Fugro Geotech Pvt. Ltd.
