Landscape Architecture

With ecology in a sorry asking state, due thought and prime importance is the need of the hour to strengthen the ecological suppest system.
A holistic view for the presentation of nature falls on the Architecture community. Architecture should not only be restricted to designing beautiful home and commercial complex but also to create a picturesque view of nature, creating a scene of tranquil and a healthy scenario. Here landscape Architecture profession becomes necessary.
Pioneer in the field of landscape Architecture is Prof. Ravindra Bhan. He envisaged the need for landscape Architecture 25 years ago and started course on the same. This has triggered the imagination of the Architectural community. Though the number of Institution catering to this professional course are inadequate. But promotional steps are being taken to encourage Institutions offering Architecture courses to offer Landscape Architecture at under graduate level.
Landscaping should be done on warfooting for newly developed residential colonies and preplanned for future colonies. Introducing a green cover which is wholly self-sustaining in the form of ground cover trees and shrubs to soften the hard built forms and exposed walls.
We, the human have been our own enemy. In the need to suffice our needs, under the guise of development modernization and technology, we have subjected nature to harsh punishment. For a economical need we have subjected the grooves and trees in the form of hard currency. Infact it has been a sacrilegious act.
After the naked realization and the fearing of the wrath of nature, it has finally dawned on man that nature is not unexhaustible. The damage cannot be undone. Though efforts to restore some of its original form can still be made.
A holistic approach to landscape is essential. Natural determinants topography, hydrology, surface geology, climate and solid are necessary for landscape.
A scenic or picturesque look alone does not mean that landscape objective is achieved. As earlier mentioned there are determinants involved for landscape. Land layout is to be considered with the word aesthetic in mind.
As it happen on most of the time, material promotion of beautification results in, instant lawns, ready made cascades, concrete made rocks. The presentation of Landscape Architecture should never be a background element, but a showcase in the forefront. It is to offer people to interact, more wholistically and intimate ways.
Landscape design is a challenge to provide and promote the theory of landscape design. Pertaining to local history, cultural values and tradition. To interact more with nature and bring nature back in a meaningful way, in the daily lives of the people.
