Highway project in Jamshedpur underway
CCI Decision
The Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure today approved the implementation of the project of 163.5 Km long section in the State of Jharkhand of two/four laning of Ranchi-Argaon-Jamshedpur section of NH-33 in the State of Gujarat under NHDP Phase III on Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) basis.
The total project cost is estimated at Rs.1011 crore under the DBFOT pattern. The concession period of the project shall be for23 years including a construction period of 30 months.
The main object of the project is to expedite the improvement of infrastructure in the State. The project is one of the stretches approved by the Government under the NHDP Phase III. The project road runs between Ranchi and Jamshedpur in the State of Jharkhand and it will provide improved connectivity between Ranchi, the State Capital of Jharkhand and Jamshedpur and will facilitate in reducing the time and cost of travel.
Background:
The Cabinet gave approval for four/six laning of 4000 Km of National Highways under the NHDP Phase IIIA on BOT basis in its meeting held in March, 2005. Subsequently, Government approved additional stretches in May,2006; Oct., 2006 and April, 2007, for implementation of four laning. The total tentative length of 12109 Km is to be done at an estimated cost of Rs.80,626 crores. The stretch under consideration is one of the approved stretches.
The major impact of the project lies in reducing the time and cost of travel of the traffic plying between Ranchi, the State Capital of Jharkhand and Jamshedpur via Rargaon in the State. It will also increase the potential of employment to local labourers for the project activities. Besides it will also add to the transportation facilities for industrial town of Jamshedpur.
