The Minister for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Kumari Selja has said that as a part of policy initiative under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), the Government has launched a scheme of Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP). The Scheme aims at operationalising the strategy envisaged in the National Urban Housing & Habitat Policy (NUHHP) 2007, of promoting various types of public-private partnerships – of the government sector with the private sector, the cooperative sector, the financial services sector, the state parastatals, urban local bodies, etc. – for realizing the goal of affordable housing for all.
In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today she said, under this scheme central support will provided at the rate of Rs 50,000 per unit of affordable dwelling unit or 25% of the cost of civic infrastructure (external and internal), whichever is lower. So far 17 projects have been approved under the scheme with a total project cost of Rs.7071.86 crores for construction of 21,180 dwelling units. The Affordable Housing in Partnership Scheme has now been dovetailed into Rajiv Awas Yojana.
