Maha govt to assign MTHL project to MMRDA

On 7th April Government of Maharashtra has assigned the Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link or MTHL project to Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) in Legislative Council. The bridge will link to Shewri in South Mumbai to Nhava Sheva in Navi Mumbai.
MMRDA would have to face several obstacles while constructing the 22km sea link as its going thorough the Karnala Bird Sanctuary, so there are very rare chances that MTHL project will get approval from the ministry of environment and forests (MoEF). Earlier project’s estimated cost was 8,600 crore and now it’s revalued to 11,000 crore and revaluation of cost is only because of additional 28-km stretch that is to be constructed to connect MTHL with the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.
The organization will move on with the beginning steps for the project. The authority will prepare a modified detailed project report (DPR) along with the request for proposals (RFP).
In 2006 Government of Maharashtra gave the MTHL project to the MMRDA, while the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation or MSRDC was preparing for this project from 2004. After that in Nov2008, the urban development department presented its report on the project to the then chief minister Ashok Chavan. Whereas Ambani brothers have also applied for the MTHL project.
