MCHI to members to keep sites mosquito free before monsoon

Mumbai, April: As a part of anti-Malaria campaign, Maharashtra Chamber of Housing Industry (MCHI), the apex body realtors has urged all its members across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region to keep their construction sites free from mosquitoes before the onset of the monsoon this year.
MCHI President Sunil Mantri in a letter addressed to 1000-odd developer members to undertake various proactive measures as suggested by the Municipal Commissioner of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) to keep the construction sites mosquito free.
“We have taken adequate measures last year and even donated mosquito nets to the MCGM last year, we should also come forward and offer similar kind of assistance this year to the MCGM”, Mr. Sunil Mantri, President MCHI said .
MCGM commissioner recently chaired a meeting of ‘Mosquito Abatement Committee’ in order to take a review of the anti-malaria campaign in the city.
In order to contain malaria in the city of Mumbai, Municipal Commissioner has requested for proactive efforts from all the Government, Semi Government and Construction industry with unified strategy for elimination of mosquito breeding at respective places and construction sites.
Following the directives of the MCGM commissioner, MCHI has requested to keep their sites mosquito proof by adopting measures such as Prevention of Stagnation of Water, Make all water storage tanks mosquito proof, Stop all leakages, Pot holes / any excavation done for developmental work to be filled in timely, Chemical Curing, Site Correction, Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) in the dwellings at the construction site to prevent malarial transmission.
The MCHI has also asked its members to ensure hygienic site conditions, baseline survey & screening at regular basis for malaria with timely treatment, Maintaining Health Card for every worker, Service of qualified medical practitioner, Distribution of insecticide impregnated nets
Temporary shelters to be treated with the appropriate insecticides, Reporting of Cases.
Appoint liaison officer to coordinate with MCGM, Quick response to requisitions made from MCGM.
The MCHI president has reminded its members that the Municipal Corporation has also set the time schedule for the mosquito proofing of construction sites and urged the members that Compliance of work to be completed by 30th April, Strengthening all mosquito proofing measures by 30th May. The MCHI also suggested for a monthly review of measures by nodal person.
