Milan ROB to be ready in six months

Steel bridge, being constructed in Karnataka, heading completion
Both approach roads nearing completion
More than 75% of the work over
Mumbai, April 24, 2011 – The progress achieved on the Milan Rail Over Bridge (ROB) will certainly make the Mumbaikars happy. The construction work of this ROB is more than 75% complete. More heartening is the news that the 61-meter steel bridge, which is being constructed in Bidar, Karnataka, is also heading completion and all permissions for its installation have been issued by the railway authorities. Now, that the entire pier work is over and both approach roads are also nearing completion, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is confident of providing Mumbaikars yet another East-West connectivity in the next six months.
“I am pretty satisfied with the speed with which the work of Milan ROB has progressed. More significantly, the MMRDA has all the required permissions for this bridge issued by the railway authorities. These permissions will allow speedy installation of the steel bridge once transported from Karnataka”, said Mr.Rahul Asthana, Metropolitan Commissioner, after his visit to the site today. The 61-meter Steel Bridge, which will be laid in 45 days over the railway tracks, will join Eastern and Western ends of the bridge at Santacruz.
The Milan subway is a flood prone area and monsoon after monsoon has been termed, by the people seeking East-West connectivity, a curse causing traffic chaos. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, therefore, decided to construct a Rail Over Bridge here. The 700-meter long ROB is being constructed at a cost of rupees 41.5 crores.
The Milan ROB is the second Rail Over Bridge to be constructed by the Authority after it constructed the 1040-meter Dahisar Rail Over Bridge which has already been thrown open to traffic last October. Incidentally, MMRDA is the first agency to erect this type of construction in railway property, especially in Mumbai region.
