MMRC appoints consultants to prepare project reports for Metro corridors

The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRC) – appointed to handle the Metro Rail project in the city of Mumbai and its Metropolitan Region – during its Board meeting chaired by Mr.Ratnakar Gaikwad, has appointed three consultants for the preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for four Metro corridors – two corridors each from Phase-II and III – of the Metro Rail project.

While M/s. SPAN Consultants Pvt. Ltd. have been awarded the work of preparation of DPR for Charkop-Dahisar route (Phase II) and Andheri-E to Dahisar-E route (Phase III); M/s. RITES Ltd. and Lea Associates South Asia Pvt. Ltd. will be preparing the DPR for BKC to Kanjurmarg via Air port with extension from BKC to Mahim route (Phase III). M/s CES (I) Pvt. Ltd. will be responsible for the preparation of the DPR for Ghatkopar-Mulund route (Phase II).

“Today’s step will ensure Mumbaikars that the State is indeed concerned about their commuting woes and is sincerely attempting to offer solution to the same”, said Mr.Ratnakar Gaikwad, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA. “Mumbai and its Metropolitan Region is the backbone of Indian economy. It is only expected of the Administrators to do everything possible to afford it the required boost”, added Mr Gaikwad.

The work on Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro Rail and India’s first Monorail – which will run from Chembur to Jacob Circle – is already underway. The second route of Metro Rail – from Charkop to Mankhurd – has been awarded to the consortium led by Reliance Infra and the feasibility study for the underground development for the third Metro Line – from Colaba to Bandra – has already been undertaken by M/s. Louis Berger Inc.
