MMRDA’s Dharavi Sports Complex to complete by July 2011

MMRDA’s ambitious Dharavi Sports Complex project is in full swing.
In the heart of the island city, this Rs. 10 crore worth state – of – the – art project is being built on CTS No. 531, opposite Mahim Nature Park, a part of H block of the Bandra Kurla Complex between Dharavi bus depot and ONGC complex. This project would encourage sporting activities and shall prove to be of great benefit for the citizens of Mumbai. It would also change the landscape of Dharavi by providing it a new identity other than just a slum sprawling area.
Construction work up to plinth level of the project is over and the ground level work is in progress. The project is expected to complete by July 2011.
The sports complex would have auditorium with the capacity of 340 people, a gymnasium with modern equipments, indoor game facilities like, Badminton andTable Tennis, shall have conference room, cafeteria, library, separate dormitories for men and women, stores, guest room and changing rooms.
The outdoor sports facilities include, a 200 meter, 5-lane running track, another 100 meter running track, Basket Ball court, Kho-kho ground, two Kabaddi grounds, two Volleyball courts, spectator gallery with capacity of 300 people, one swimming pool of size 25×25 meter, learner’s swimming pool (12.5×12.5 meter) along with filtration plants and proposed administrative building.
MMRDA has appointed architectural firm M/S Patki and Associates for the design purpose, M/S. API Constructions for construction purpose the complex and M/S Dipak Kulkarni as a Project Management Consultant for executing the work.The operational and management policy issues of the complex are soon to be decided by MMRDA.
