MMRDA establishes 24X7 control rooms for Monsoon

Mumbai, June 10, 2010 – The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is all set to tackle problems that may arise during the Monsoon. 24X7 control rooms have been established at various locations to appropriately deal with crisis situations.
MMRDA has also established separate control rooms for high priority projects like Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro Rail corridor and the Chembur-Wadala-Jacob Circle Mono Rail corridor.
The control rooms will disseminate the information received to the concerned sites. The control rooms as also the mobile vans at various sites will be fully equipped with Engineers, support staff and the required machinery.
“Barricades will be put up at all the construction sites including Metro and Monorail. Apart from the barricades, appropriate sign-boards will be displayed and sufficient lighting will be provided around the project sites. We will try and ensure that Mumbaikars enjoy a hassle free monsoon”, said Mr. Ratnakar Gaikwad, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA.
MMRDA has also issued guidelines to the contractors to strictly adhere to the safety measures. The authority has also instructed the contractors to stringently follow norms as far as barricading, clearing of the muck on the roads and its disposal is concerned.
