MMRDA rehabs 2 lakh people from 40,000 project affected families

The town planning authority, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has successfully rehabilitated about  40,000 project affected families so far in it’s 36 colonies in the region along with the provision of occupational opportunities to these families through its Livelihood Cell. With this gigantic and complex job, about 2 lakh individuals have been rehabilitated which is indeed a difficult task than completing an infrastructural project.

The Livelihood cell of  MMRDA creates occupational opportunities for the project affected people who live Below Poverty Line (BPL). It also encourages occupation and self-employment opportunities to women of such families. One such group of  women has been given the opportunity to run MMRDA’s canteen which caters to more than 800 people on daily basis.

In order to strengthen and empower the women and youth belonging to the project affected families many such initiatives have been taken by MMRDA that includes establishment of  Self Help Groups, Livelihood Enhancement Action Programme, Sankalp Mahila Audyogik Utpadak Sanstha etc.
