Mumbai: The Mithi river development (Phase II) project is likely to get more costly. As the civic body has issued more fund of Rs.1.15crore proposal to allow the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B) to check for the presence of rocks on the riverbed. The proposal is likely to be table in this week in the standing committee meeting.
The river development project includes construction of a retaining wall, beautification along the river and constructing service roads. As there are several complaints have been made regarding the presence of rocks on the riverbed, however in the beginning of the current year civic body has ordered to IIT-B to conduct soil testing. After conducting primary soil testing institute has said that there is a need to bring soil samples from between Filter Pada in Powai and CST pool in Kurla. There is a need to dig out at least 10meters to check for presence of rocks, institute officials said. The estimated cost of the project is around Rs 1.15crore. “We haven’t issue any tenders for this project as we are directly working with IIT-B,” civic official said.
