Mumbai, 13 June, 2010: The MMRDA is going all out to ensure that the Mumbai Metro trains will be at its innovative best, being fully equipped with state of the art technology and a slew of glittering features like the black box, advanced passenger driver communication, cctv cameras as some of its most prominent features.
The black box so far used only in the air crafts will now for the first time ever will make its way into the metro trains. Expected to play a key role, all the coaches of the metro train will be equipped with the black box which will be crash proof and will be instrumental in recording audio data within the compartments that could prove essential for providing analysis should there be an accident.
The rakes will also have closed circuit cameras for the continuous surveillance and monitoring of commuters. The coaches will also have an advanced passenger driver communication system which will give direct access to the passenger to communicate with the driver should there be an emergency. Electronic route maps would also be provided for the convenience of the passengers.
Says Mr. Ratnakar Gaikwad, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA, “we want to provide world class amenities to the Mumbaikars and make their travel journey an enjoyable experience”.
The coaches which have been ordered from Chinese firm CSR Nanjing Puzhen Rolling Stock Ltd will also be equipped with audio-visual passenger information system and include wheel chair facilities for the physically challenged. The Metro will also provide with automated brakes which will compute a safe journey preventing mishaps.
