New projects for West Bengal under JNNURM approved

The Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) for sanctioning of projects under Sub Mission of UIG under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) has approved new projects for West Bengal.

The storm water drainage project in Budge Budge Municipal area within Kolkata Urban Agglomeration, West Bengal was approved by CSMC in order to rid the town of water logging during monsoons affecting the routine economic activities. The situation worsens in the absence of storm water drains. The project would build comprehensive storm water drainage system in the town with proper outfalls to the river through cannals. The system will provide 100% coverage of total road network of 32 kms. The project will be implemented in 24 months. The details of the project are as under:

Another project for Durgapur, Urban Agglomeration of Asansol, West Bengal – 24X7 water supply scheme (Phase-III) was approved to ensure adequate potable water supply as per norms for the uncovered wards of Durgapur Municipal Corporation and new growth areas covered under the project. The project will provide connectivity of 100% households and a supply pattern of 24X7 as per JNNURM objectives and it will also provide water metering system to ensure sustainability of

the water project and incentivize conservation of water. The project will cover slum population of 1.38 lakhs and minority population of 1.13 lakhs . The project will be implemented by Durgapur Municipal corporation and will take 2 years for completion. The details of the project are as under:
