Providing East-West connectivity is MMRDA’s mandate: CM

Mumbai: At the time of launching the Southern arm of the Burfiwala flyover Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said “Providing East-West connectivity to Mumbaikars is MMRDA’s mandate and we will achieve our goal with the help of all the technical expertise available today.”
The Mumbaikars will now fly over the ever crowded S.V.Road junction this monsoon as the two-lane Southern arm of the Burfiwala flyover was launched today. “The signals at SV Road are very time consuming especially during monsoon. Of course, now that Mumbaikars will enjoy two additional lanes, reaching Andheri West would be that much easier and less time consuming saving all important fuel too”, said Hon. Deputy Chief Minister Mr.Ajit Pawar.
“The two-lane arm will lead vehicles – more than seventy thousand daily as the study shows – straight from Gokhale Bridge to Tipu Sultan Chowk (Juhu Galli) without any signal”, said Mr.Rahul Asthana, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA.
The MMRDA has, till today, thrown open flyovers at Dindoshi, Thakur Complex, Malad Junction, Domestic Airport, Navghar Junction, Sion Hospital, Hindamata Junction, Maheshwari Udyan-Tulpule Chowk, and Bharatmata-Lalbaug. All these flyovers are part of the 11-flyover programme taken up under the Mumbai Urban Infrastructure Project.
