Rail Over Bridge at Dahisar is ready!
Will be opened soon
Mumbai, October 14, 2010 – The 1,040 meters long and 24 meters wide Dahisar Rail Over Bridge, which will offer easier East-West connectivity to thousands of vehicle owners, is ready and will be opened soon. The six lane rail over bridge – three lanes each on either side – is expected to carry more than 3,000 vehicles daily saving invaluable time and oil. All the ten 110-ton heavy and 36 meter long girders were launched with latest technology.
“Incidentally, MMRDA is the first agency to erect this type of construction in railway property. Never in the past has it happened that any agency, other than the railways, could erect a rail over bridge in railway property, especially in Mumbai region”, said Ms.Ashwini Bhide, Joint Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA.
The heavy-duty activity was possible because of the continuous blocks made available by the Railways. “The entire operation was time consuming and could not have been completed diligently without the cooperation of the railway authorities. The much awaited East-West connectivity to motorists is now possible only because of the blocks allowed by railways during night hours”, said Mr.S.R.Nandargikar, Chief Engineer, MMRDA.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) had committed to complete the Rs. 50-crore Dahisar Rail Over Bridge by the yearend and has delivered the promise a clear 75 days ahead.
