Singur Land redistribution gets stop order: SC
The Apex court has issued a stop order to Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government’s programme of redistribution of the land to the farmers which has been distributed by the previous government to the Tata Motors’ Nano car project at Singur in the state.
The apex court asked the Calcutta High Court to decide within one month the legality of Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development (SLRD) Act which enables the state government to take back the land and redistribute it to the owners.
The vacation bench comprising Justice P sathasivam and justice AK Patnaik on Wednesday said that “for temporary arrangement, we directed to the authorities do not redistribute the allotted land to the owners till the further orders passed by the HC.” On the plea of Tata Motors counsel Mukul Rohatgi, who cited that state is moving ahead with its redistribution programme where as land has been allotted to the company.
