Sion Hospital flyover opened with 2 southbound lanes

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) threw open the much awaited Sion Hospital flyover. The flyover – which was constructed within a period of twenty two months – will enable the vehicle owners to avoid the cumbersome traffic moments as they would be able to avoid three time consuming traffic signals from Sion Circle to Gandhi Market. Now, reaching the Lalbaug will become easier and faster.

The two remaining northbound lanes will be thrown open for traffic by the MMRDA around January.

“The conflicting traffic movements would often delay journey towards Lalbaug. However, this 681-meter long flyover with two southbound lanes, will certainly ease traffic movement and afford momentum besides saving fuel”, said Mr.Ratnakar Gaikwad, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA.

The 45-crore Sion Hospital flyover is the first part of the three flyovers. The other two flyovers in the package are at King’s Circle and Hindamata on Dr.Ambedkar Road. The cost of the entire package is rupees 142 crores.

The flyover would prove absolutely vital for the traffic moment. Dr.Ambedkar Road establishes a vital link between Sion and Lalbaug. “Now the traffic can move without having to face criss-cross vehicular and pedestrian traffic”, said Mr. S.R.Nandargikar, Chief Engineer, MMRDA.
