Mr. K. S. Sripathi, Chief Secretary, Government of Tamil Nadu and Dr. T. V. Somanathan, Managing Director of Chennai Metro Rail Limited, visited Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro corridor. “We quite appreciate that the financial models – as in the case of the Mumbai Metro-I corridor – are boon to the development of any city and should be adhered to by other states too”, said Mr. K. S. Sripathi, Chief Secretary, Government of Tamil Nadu after visiting the Metro-I alignment. “The Public-Private Partnership model makes it sure that major projects do not pine away for want of funds or get delayed for want of steady funding”, said Mr.Sripathi further.

“The work on Chennai Metro Rail has started recently and, frankly, I have learnt a lot as far as the on-ground implementation of Metro work is concerned”, said Dr. T. V. Somanathan, Managing Director of Chennai Metro Rail Limited.

The Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary and the Managing Director of the Chennai Metro Rail Limited, both, were given two presentations – one, on Mumbai Metro Rail and the other on various other MMRDA projects. Both Tamil Nadu Government officials showed great interest in the proposed development projects for the city and the metropolitan region and compared few of them with the projects that are underway back in Chennai. “Like MMRDA’s 100 km Virar-Alibaug multi-modal corridor, Government of Tamil Nadu too is developing a ring-road around outer Chennai which is more than 75 kms long”, informed Dr.Somanathan. The Tamil Nadu Government officials also were keen to know more about Mumbai Trans Harbour Link and about the Iconic Tower that is slated to come up at Wadala.

The Tamil Nadu Government officials were also briefed on Mono Rail, Iconic building – ISBT, Rental Housing, Innovation Park, Water Resource Development and resettlement and rehabilitation of the project affected families.
