The London Mayor keen to finance city infrastructure projects

Mumbai, October 11, 2011 – “Financing projects that will boost Mumbai’s infrastructure and economy would be our focus”, beamed Rt.Hon.Lord, Mayor of the city of London who visited the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) today along with Mr.Peter Beckingham, British Deputy High Commissioner, Mumbai and a party of twelve delegates.
Mr.Rahul Asthana, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA, discussed various critical infrastructure projects and their magnitude and significance for the city of Mumbai. The Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link, the seven proposed Metro Lines and the Multi-modal Corridor were the three projects that attracted the Mayor of London. “Yes, the Mayor did indicate financing a few projects that will take city’s communication with rest of the country and world to the next level. Finances will be crucial. However, we would like to examine such proposals before any decision is arrived at”, said Mr.Asthana, responding to the Mayor of London’s offer.
The 22 km and 6-lane Trans-Harbour link reduce the travel time from Sewri to Nhava from three hours to a mere 30 minutes. The Link that will save traveling distance by, at least, 50 km will also afford faster connectivity to the New International Airport.
The Seven proposed Metro corridors are – Colaba-BKC, Charkop-Dahisar, Ghatkopar-Mulund, BKC-Kanjur Marg via Airport, Andheri-E-Dahisar-E, Hutatma Chowk-Ghatkopar and Sewri–Prabhadevi.
