This monsoon Mumbaikars will fly over Milan Subway
Affected families happily move to MMRDA’s R&R colony at Oshiwara
Railway permissions to construct Steel Bridge over rail-line issued
Fabrication of Steel Bridge and foundation work in railway property has begun
Mumbai, February 3, 2011 – The Mumbaikars can now, in fact, fly over the Milan Subway this monsoon as major hurdles are making way for a smooth completion of the rail over bridge! The project affected families have happily agreed to move to MMRDA’s resettlement and rehabilitation colony at Oshiwara, courtesy local MLAs and the MP; the railways have issued permissions to construct a Steel Bridge over the rail line; the fabrication of Steel Bridge, with the result, is in progress and the foundation work for the bridge in the railway property has begun too. “The overall scenario looks very positive and we can safely say that the Mumbaikars will fly over the Milan Subway this monsoon – without having to bother about the water logged area – to cross over from the Eastern side to the Western side of the city”, said Ms.Ashwini Bhide, Additional Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA.
There are 160 families affected by the project and the Authority has allocated a plot for their resettlement very close to their present residence. However, owing to construction of the bridge, shifting of these families for a temporary period was necessary. Since the number of affected families was large, the Authority decided to move them in two phases of which the first phase has been completed today. In the first phase, all 65 families – recognizing the necessity of the project – have accepted keys to their temporary tenements. The Authority, on its part, will now construct two buildings for all the affected families during their twenty months’ temporary stay at Oshiwara. “This will prove crucial, what with the railway permissions for the construction of the Steel Bridge too having been issued. Also, with the ramp on the Western side almost ready, this monsoon motorists could expect one more rail over bridge providing East-West connectivity on the heels of the recently opened rail over bridge at Dahisar constructed by MMRDA”, informed Ms.Bhide further.
The MMRDA also expects same cooperation from people concerned with a Masjid that is in the middle of the road on the Eastern side
