Unauthorized structures can be legalized by paying charges

The owners of illegal buildings can heave sigh of relief, who have built buildings close to the scheduled roads as well as along with the National Highways, as state government has decided to legalize these buildings by applying charges.
Whereas, six months period has given to the owners of unauthorized buildings, which has been come up before January 3, 2009, to avail the benefits of an amendment to the Punjab Scheduled Roads and Controlled Areas Restriction of Unregulated Development Act, 1963, so state government has decided to regularized buildings by applying charges of Rs 600 per square metre for a building on a national highway and Rs 350 per square metre for one on a scheduled road, senior official said.
A committee comprising the District Town Planner, a representative of the Deputy Commissioner concerned (not below an HCS officer), Executive Officer of the Municipal Corporation or Municipal Council concerned and an Executive Engineer, PWD, will scrutinize the applications.
